SWOSU Launches New Honors Program

SWOSU Honors Program

Southwestern Oklahoma State University has launched its new SWOSU Honors Program that will start during the 2015 fall semester on the Weatherford campus.

Applications from high school seniors are due March 1.

Dr. Andrea Holgado, co-director of the SWOSU Honors Program, said the program will strive to cultivate academic excellence in its members and form a community of scholars sensitive to socioeconomic, educational and environmental challenges.

Students interested in the program must have a minimum 28 ACT composite (or SAT score of 1250) and a minimum 3.5 high school grade point average.

The honors application form can be found at: www.swosu.edu/academics/honors/form-one.aspx. Other items needed include a resume, 500-750 word essay and contact information of two academic references.

Holgado said some of the benefits of the SWOSU Honors Program include:

  • Participation in a program that offers the challenges of comprehensive universities while providing the advantages of a small, safe and affordable school.
  • Personalized advising and scheduling, ensuring early access to appropriate Honors courses and professors.
  • A peer group that supports academic excellence and environment in which young scholars can flourish.
  • A campus location to develop a sense of community and belonging.
  • Opportunities for students to excel outside the classroom through research, service learning and study abroad.
  • Assistance for students as they pursue post-graduate education, national scholarships and other experiences beyond the university.
