Westview Writers’ Festival Planned April 20-21 at SWOSU

The 23rd annual Westview Writers’ Festival will be held April 20-21 on the Weatherford campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and the public is invited to attend any of the events, which are free.

Featured this year will be Dr. Edward H. Friedman, Vanderbilt University; John Graves Morris, Cameron University; Dr. Flowers Rivera, author of Heathen; Dr. Denise Landrum-Geyer, SWOSU; and Victor Wolf, author of Good Vibrations.

The night-time program will be held Tuesday, April 21, from 6-8 p.m. in the SWOSU Conference Center.

The schedule of events:

April 20

11 a.m.-12 noon: Memorial Student Ballroom

  • Public Lecture by Dr. Edward H. Friedman from Vanderbilt University. Professor Friedman will speak on Don Quixote and his dramatic adaptation of Cervantes’s novel, Crossing the Line: A Quixotic Adventure in Two Acts.

1-2 p.m.: Stafford Center 112

  • Class Lecture by Dr. Edward H. Friedman on the theme of “Micro-stories, Macro-ideas: Latin American Fiction.”

April 21

6-8 p.m.: SWOSU Conference Center

Westview Poetry and Literary Performances, Q&A, and Retiring Faculty Reception.

  • Dr. John Graves Morris from Cameron University will be reading selected works, some of which have been featured in Westview.
  • Q&A by Dr. Helen Maxson of SWOSU
  • Dr. Flowers Rivera will read from her newly published, award-winning book of poetry, HEATHEN
  • Dr. Denise Landrum-Geyer of SWOSU will read her creative non-fiction essay “Nature’s Tattoos” featured in Westview.
  • Victor Wolf will read his short story “Good Vibrations” featured in an upcoming issue of Westview.
  • Honoring the retiring faculty members from the Dept. of Language and Literature
