The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Parks and Recreation Management Department in Weatherford is sponsoring three interns this summer at Kachemak Bay State Park in Alaska.

Caleb Haynes of Chickasha, Bryan Lewis of Ft. Cobb and Cody Burrow of Cordell will work on the backcountry trail crew in the 400,000 acre Alaska State Park.

The three students have completed their junior years at SWOSU.  Haynes and Lewis are Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement majors.  They will both be members of next year’s Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement CLEET Academy. Burrow is pursuing both a Bachelor of Science degree in Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement and an Associate of Science degree in Wildland Firefighting.

Established in 1970, Kachemak Bay is Alaska’s only state wilderness park and contains mountains, glaciers, forest and ocean.  The park is home to sea otters, sea lions, porpoise and whales.  Kachemak Bay is also home to moose, bear, wolves, eagles, gyrfalcons and puffins.
