SWOSU Commencement Will Follow Rain Plan on Saturday

Approximately 1,050 Southwestern Oklahoma State University students are eligible to walk through the university's Commencement this Saturday, May 9,  in Weatherford.

Because of anticipated inclement weather, three separate exercises will be held in two different buildings on the SWOSU campus.

The schedule is:

  • 10 a.m.—Associate Degrees, College of Arts & Sciences, College of Professional & Graduate Studies programs including Dobson School of Business & Technology and B.S. in Education—Pioneer Cellular Event Center
  • 12 noon—College of Pharmacy—Fine Arts Center
  • 2 p.m.—College of Professional & Graduate Studies programs including School of Nursing & Allied Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Parks & Recreation Department, Psychology, Master’s Degrees, and Social Work—Pioneer Cellular Event Center

The Wellness Center will be open from 8 a.m. until 3:15 p.m. to provide coffee and a place for graduates, family and friends to gather while waiting for the appropriate ceremony.

Students who completed or will complete bachelor's, master's or doctoral degrees after the 2014 fall, 2015 spring, 2015 summer and 2015 fall semesters are eligible to participate in the ceremony.

Dr. Jay P. Cannon and Albert Gray, both of Oklahoma City, will be inducted into the SWOSU Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame during the 10 a.m. ceremony. Cannon has been a medical doctor for over 40 years and is currently serving as medical director of the Oklahoma Workers’ Compensation Commission, while Gray is chief executive officer of The Children’s Center in Bethany.
