International Trumpet Soloist Mary Elizabeth Bowden Performs Friday at SWOSU

Mary Bowden

The Southwestern Oklahoma State University Department of Music will host Yamaha Performing Artist Mary Bowden for a two-day residency October 28 and 30 with Bowden performing a public concert this Friday evening at 7 p.m. on the Weatherford campus.

The concert in Berrong Recital Hall is free and open to the public.

Bowden will spend two days on the SWOSU campus. She will address the music student body on the challenges of being an artist/soloist in the 21st century during the students’ regular recital hour on Wednesday.  When she returns to campus on Friday, she will present a free trumpet master class that is open to the public at 3 p.m. in Room 102 of the Fine Arts Center.

At the 7 p.m. concert, Bowden will be assisted by SWOSU piano faculty Yu-Ling Chen and Dr. Jonathan Jung and graduate student Yi-Wei Huang. The program will include pieces by Debussy, McMichael, DeFalla, Barber, Enesco, Ravel and Mozart.

Bowden, a Yamaha Performing Artist, is highly regarded for her artistry and virtuosity as a soloist. Earlier this year, she released her debut album, “Radiance,” on Summit Records featuring new American works.

Bowden was the first prize winner of the 2012 International Women’s Brass Conference Trumpet competition. She is currently principal trumpet of the Sarasota Opera Orchestra and the Artosphere Festival Orchestra.
