SWOSU Ranked #3 in Oklahoma for Blood Drive Donors

Southwestern Oklahoma State University was recently honored by the Oklahoma Blood Institute for its efforts with blood drives held in western Oklahoma with SWOSU ranked as the state’s #3 top overall group for blood donors during the 2014 year.

SWOSU will hold another blood drive on Monday and Tuesday, November 30-December 1, on the Weatherford campus, and SWOSU officials hope to host another successful drive.

According to Emma Meyer with the Oklahoma Blood Institute, the top 10 blood drive facilitators in the state were: 1) University of Oklahoma, 1664; 2) Air Force Sustainment Center, 1,019; 3) SWOSU, 862; 4) INTEGRIS Health, 802; and 5) Citizen Pottawatomie Nation, 802; 6) Bob Moore Auto Group, 764; 7) Shawnee Mall, 707; 8) Oklahoma City Thunder, 685; 9) Chesapeake Energy Corporation, 672; and 10) University of Central Oklahoma, 655.

Cindy Dougherty, dean of students at SWOSU, said the university is grateful to the many students and area residents who are making the blood drives so successful at SWOSU.

“The SWOSU community is humbled by the opportunity to serve western Oklahoma in this way,” Dougherty said. “We are proud of our students who make it happen.”

Brian Adler, vice president of public relations and marketing at SWOSU, said the university is pleased to make the prestigious Top 10 list along with the other nine businesses, organizations and universities. He said the Collegiate Activities Board and Student Government Association have worked hard on the SWOSU blood drives.

The upcoming blood drive will start at 11 a.m. both days and last until 4 p.m. in the Wellness Center on the SWOSU campus. This drive is not limited to only SWOSU students; the public is invited and encouraged to attend.
