Regional Speech Tourney Set March 11-12 at SWOSU

Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host a regional speech contest this Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, with approximately 250 students coming to Weatherford from 30 Class 3A and 4A schools in the state.

The students will compete in 13 OSSAA sanctioned contest events: team debate or CX, Lincoln-Douglas debate, original oratory, standard oratory, foreign extemporaneous speaking, domestic extemporaneous speaking, poetry interpretation, prose interpretation, monologue, dramatic duet, humorous duet, dramatic interpretation, and humorous interpretation.

First, second, and third place winners will all advance to the state competition in April.

Viewing of the competition is open to the public, but times will vary with each event. Headquarters for the event will be in Campbell 201, and contests will be held in the Conference Center and Art Building on Friday. On Saturday, the event will be held in the Campbell Building beginning at 8:30 a.m. and continuing until approximately 4 p.m.

An award ceremony will be held in the Memorial Student Center at 6 p.m.
