Shawn SheehanThe Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, Shawn Sheehan of Norman High School, will speak at Southwestern Oklahoma State University this Wednesday, March 23, as part of the Teacher Candidate Professional Development Day on the Weatherford campus.

The public is invited to hear Sheehan’s presentation at 1:35 p.m. in the Skyview Suite of the Pioneer Cellular Event Center.

Also going on throughout the day at SWOSU will be various professional development concurrent sessions as part of the SWOSU Education Career & Resources Fair. The sessions run from 9-11 a.m. and feature the following topics: Technology Tools to Engage All Learners; Assistive Technology 101; SWOSU Graduate Programs; Engaging Students through Ice-Breakers; New Teacher Finances/Incentives; Classroom Funding via Grants; Balancing Teaching/Extracurriculars; and Panel of New Teachers Questions/Answers.

Sheehan has been teaching as a specialized education math teacher for the last five years.  In August of 2015, he was selected as Oklahoma’s 2016 Teacher of the Year.  Sheehan is also the founder of Teach Like Me Campaign, which aims to redefine public perceptions of the educator profession.  The social media campaign has garnered much more attention since he became Oklahoma Teacher of the Year, and he hopes to use it as platform in response to the teacher shortage in Oklahoma and nationwide.

The SWOSU Education Career and Technology Fair is a combined effort between the Department of Education and Career Services office. For more information, contact Bruce Belanger at bruce.belanger@swosu.edu.
