Chad Kinder Named Interim Dean of SWOSU CPGS

Dr. Chad Kinder has been named interim Dean of the College of Professional & Graduate Studies at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford effective July 1.

Kinder has been employed at SWOSU since 1997. He has served as Associate Dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education since 2006. He also serves as Chair of the Parks and Recreation Management Department, a position he has held since the department’s inception in 2003.  He created and supervises degree programs in Parks and Recreation Management, Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement and Wildland Firefighting.  For over nine years, Kinder served as park manager and law enforcement ranger at Crowder Lake University Park.

Kinder holds Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education degrees from SWOSU.  He earned his Doctor of Education degree with a specialization in Natural Resource Recreation Management from Oklahoma State University.

Prior to his employment at SWOSU, Kinder taught in the Custer City and Clinton Public Schools. Kinder is a past president and two-time vice president for recreation of the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.  He has served as a director for the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute and continues to serve as their continuing education coordinator.

Kinder’s wife, Gayla, has taught first grade in the Arapaho – Butler Public Schools for the past 22 years.  They have two children.  Natalie, sophomore at Arapaho – Butler, and Carson, 6th grader. The family lives on a farm east of Arapaho. 

Kinder takes over for Dr. Ken Rose, who is retiring from SWOSU, on June 30.
