Brenda Burgess Named Vice President of Administration and Finance at SWOSU

Brenda Burgess has been selected as vice president of administration and finance at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford and Sayre.

She has served 16 years as director of business affairs and comptroller at SWOSU.

“Brenda is very familiar with the university’s financial affairs, and I am excited that she will assume this important role,” SWOSU President Randy Beutler said. “Universities face challenging financial times, and Brenda’s familiarity with SWOSU will be very helpful in the upcoming years.”

As vice president of accounting and finance, Burgess is the chief financial officer at SWOSU. This appointment is subject to Regional University System of Oklahoma Board approval.

Before coming to SWOSU in 2000, Burgess, a native of Fort Supply, served as plant manager of Chickasha Cotton Oil Mill, accountant at Jan Oil Company and accounting manager at Allied Materials.

Burgess received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Central Oklahoma and a Master of Business Administration from Southwestern (KS) College. She is a Certified Government Financial Manager, Certified Purchasing Officer for the State of Oklahoma and graduate of the College Business Management Institute.

Burgess is an Oklahoma Community Institute graduate and served five years as chair of the Leadership Weatherford Committee.

She has one daughter and son-in-law, Jodi and Matt Stanley. Burgess’ grandchildren are Kadence, Kylee and Jace.

Burgess will assume the role of Tom Fagan, who is retiring in October after serving SWOSU for 27 years.
