Rick Wormeli Presenting Free Workshop at SWOSU for Teachers & Others Interested in Education

Rick Wormeli—an internationally known speaker on middle-level education, innovation and teacher professionalism—will present a free workshop at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford on Saturday, December 3, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. in the Pioneer Cellular Event Center. The public is invited, and registration is required.

Wormeli’s topic—Re-dos & Re-takes: Rationale, Myth-busting, and Practicalities—will be beneficial to all teachers and others interested in teaching, according to Ed Klein, chair of the SWOSU Education Department. Wormeli offers options for teaching to greater levels of learning and mastery for students at all levels.

“We become competent teachers by teaching a lot,” Wormeli said. “We teach, receive critique, revise our efforts, and teach again.  Real learning that moves to long-term memory is reiterative, and we need to extend the same opportunities to our students, even in a curriculum-overload culture.”

He said instead of hiding behind the factory model of schooling, teachers can build proficiency with repeated and meaningful engagement with content.

There will also be a $1,000 scholarship given away that day at the event. For more information, contact Klein at (580) 774.3143 or ed.klein@swosu.edu.
