SWOSU-Sayre Hosts Career Day & Awards Scholarships

More than 150 high school juniors and seniors recently attended the annual Career Day at Southwestern Oklahoma State University-Sayre.

Representatives from more than 20 SWOSU academic programs spoke to groups of high school and SWOSU students in brief sessions about those programs.

“Career Day helps us inform local students about the academic and career opportunities available through the university,” said event organizer and SWOSU-Sayre Registrar Terry Billey.

Scholarships were also made available for participants. One student from each attending school was awarded a $400 Career Day Scholarship to be used in the spring. Scholarships were given to students from Elk City, Sayre, Canute, Erick, Sentinel, Mangum, Merritt, Reydon, Shamrock (TX), Cheyenne, Sweetwater, Granite, Clinton and Western Technology Center in Sayre.

InterBank generously provided and grilled hot dogs for the students who were treated to lunch, gifts, and games inside Patterson Fieldhouse on the SWOSU-Sayre campus.

“The high school students had a great time playing games and interacting with the SWOSU-Sayre students, staff, and faculty,” Billey said.  “We always enjoy having area high school seniors on our campus.”

This is the 17th consecutive year SWOSU-Sayre has hosted Career Day.
