Chad Kinder Named Dean of the SWOSU College of Professional and Graduate Studies

Dr. Chad Kinder is the new Dean of the College of Professional and Graduate Studies at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Kinder has been serving as interim Dean since the retirement of Dr. Ken Rose.  

Kinder has been employed by SWOSU since 1997. He has served as Associate Dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education since 2006.  He also serves as chair of the Parks and Recreation Management Department, a position he has held since the department’s inception in 2003.  Kinder created and supervises degree programs in Parks and Recreation Management, Parks and Wildlife Law Enforcement and Wildland Firefighting. 

As Associate Dean, Chad supervised the Departments of Education, Kinesiology, Parks and Recreation Management, and Psychology.  For over nine years, he served as park manager and law enforcement ranger at Crowder Lake University Park.

Kinder holds Bachelor of Science in Education and Master of Education degrees from SWOSU.  He earned his Doctor of Education degree from Oklahoma State University.

Prior to his employment at SWOSU, Kinder taught in the Custer City and Clinton Public Schools.  He is a past president and three-time vice president for recreation of the Oklahoma Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.  He has served as a director for the Southwest Park and Recreation Training Institute and continues to serve as their continuing education coordinator.

Kinder’s wife, Gayla, teaches first grade at Arapaho – Butler Public Schools.  Their daughter, Natalie, is a junior at Arapaho – Butler.  Their son, Carson, is in the seventh grade.
