SWOSU Students Help Disaster Relief Efforts in Northwest Oklahoma

Members of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford recently assisted in disaster relief efforts in northwest Oklahoma.

About one week after a major ice storm impacted the area in middle January, the SWOSU students helped restore areas in Woodward that were affected by the storm.

According to BCM Director Scott Hume, the SWOSU group was instrumental in cleanup as they cleaned Lions Park, a baseball park, the Rotary Park, Veterans Memorial Park, Crystal Lake and the walking trail surrounding it.

“This was our first time to volunteer as a group, and the students already want to know when the next opportunity to serve will be,” Hume said. “More and more students are ready to sign up for specialty teams training, so they are catching more of the vision of the scope for the Disaster Relief program.”

The BCM’s participation was part of the Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Recovery program.
