Sexual Assault Awareness Class Planned February 20 in Weatherford

A sexual assault awareness class is being held Monday, February 20, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

The class will be held from 6-7:30 p.m. in Room 117 of the Stafford Center.  The public is invited, and admission is free.

Three SWOSU officials will conduct the class, including: Police Chief Kendra Brown, who will share risk reduction and prevention strategies, Oklahoma legal definitions on sexual assault, and current statistics; sexual assault nurse examiner Laura Smith, who will discuss the exam process; and counselor Kim Liebscher, who will discuss resources on how to heal after an assault.

Brown said sexual violence impacts communities and affects people of all ages and genders.

Some of the questions that will be addressed at the class include:

  • Do you know what factors increase your chances of becoming victimized?
  • What do you do if you become a victim of sexual assault?
  • What is the process like?
  • How can we help you heal afterward?
