SWOSU Summer Science and Mathematics Academy Accepting Applications

Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host its Summer Science and Mathematics Academy (SSMA) June 11-23 on the Weatherford campus, and applications are now being accepted.

The two-week program is for high school juniors and seniors and is designed to give the participants an experience in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The program is designed to motivate the students to pursue higher education in STEM careers.

“Since 1990, summer academies have provided Oklahoma middle and high school students the opportunity to experience the college campus environment while exploring new and exciting career options in STEM,” said Oklahoma Chancellor of Higher Education Glen D. Johnson. “This program offers students the opportunity to study with top professors and explore hands-on learning in STEM fields that exceeds anything they’ve encountered in a traditional classroom.”

SSMA will be located on the SWOSU campus with participants living in residence halls, dining in the cafeteria, and taking classes in a variety of science content and communication areas.

Activities will include work in SWOSU laboratories, field experiences, and team activities to enhance the participants' problem-solving skills. During the second week, participants will be involved in a problem-solving competition.
