SWOSU Symphony Orchestra Plans Tuesday Concert

The SWOSU Symphony Orchestra will have its fall concert this Tuesday, October 3, at 7 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Auditorium on the Weatherford campus. The public is invited to the free concert.

The orchestra, conducted by Dr. Alex Lee, was recently selected as an honor orchestra to perform at the Oklahoma Music Association Conference in 2018.

SWOSU’s Symphony Orchestra will perform Schubert’s Mass No. 2, featuring soprano soloist Dr. Kristin Griffeath, tenor soloist Dr. Robin Griffeath, bass soloist Douglas Finley and the Southwestern Singers.

The orchestra will also perform Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bald Mountain and the first movement from one of the Antonin Dvorak’s most famous works, the New World Symphony.  Mussorgsky’s A Night on Bald Mountain is often played during the Halloween season and is featured in the Walt Disney movie Fantasia.  The New World Symphony represents the composers’ most nostalgic feeling toward the homeland and a hope for the bright future.
