Medieval Arts & Crafts Fair Planned November 11 at SWOSU

A Medieval Arts & Crafts Fair will be held Saturday, November 11, on the campus of Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

The SWOSU Medieval Arts Club is hosting the third annual event from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in the Memorial Student Center. Admission is free, and events are for both young and old alike. The club is working in collaboration with members of the Society of Creative Anachronism (SCA).

Hands-on learning workshops include:

  • Calligraphy
  • Embroidery
  • Blacksmithing
  • Leatherworking
  • Making Glass Beads
  • Fingerloop Braiding
  • Making Medieval Butter
  • Painting and Illumination

Demonstrations will include:

  • Chivalric Combat
  • Metalworking
  • Medieval Drumming and Dancing

According to SWOSU Assistant Professor Siriporn Peters, around 85 SCA volunteers and 15 SWOSU students will be on hand to demonstrate the arts and sciences. Assisting the SWOSU Medieval Art Club will be the Graphic Design Student Association, Art Club and Art Education Club. Assisting with the event is the Weatherford Arts Council.
