SWOSU Nursing Instructor Named to National Subcommittee
Carmen Nickel, instructor in the School of Nursing at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, has been appointed by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN) to a national review subcommittee.
Nickel, who is president of the Oklahoma Board of Nursing (OBON), will serve a two-year term on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) Item Review Subcommittee.
The subcommittee is charged with assisting the NCLEX Examination Committee with item reviews for the NCLEX RN and PN examinations.
Nickel was appointed to the OBON by Gov. Mary Fallin in 2015 for a five-year term. She was elected president in March 2018. Nickel serves as chair-elect on the Nursing Education & Nursing Practice Advisory Committee and is a member on the Education IDP Committee, Legislative Committee and Budget Committee.
The NCSBN has evolved into one of the leading voices of regulation across the world. NCSBN’s membership is comprised of the boards of nursing in the 50 states, the District of Columbia and four U.S. territories—American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands and the Virgin Islands. NCSBN member boards protect the public by ensuring that safe and competent nursing care is provided by licensed nurses. These BONs regulate more than 4.8 million licensed nurses.
