SWOSU-Sayre Hosts Career Day, Awards Scholarships

Over 120 juniors and seniors from 10 area high schools recently attended the annual Career Day at Southwestern Oklahoma State University-Sayre.

Representatives from 19 SWOSU academic programs spoke to groups of high school and SWOSU students in brief sessions about the programs.

“Career Day helps us inform area students about the academic and career opportunities available through the university,” said event organizer and SWOSU-Sayre Registrar Terry Billey.

Scholarships were also made available for participants.  One student from each attending school was awarded a $400 Career Day Scholarship to use at SWOSU-Sayre next fall.  Scholarships were awarded to students from Canute, Cheyenne, Elk City, Erick, Merritt, Reydon, Sayre, Sentinel, Sweetwater and Vici.

SWOSU provided free lunch and t-shirts for attendees, and the Army National Guard provided an inflatable obstacle course.

“The high school students had a great time interacting with the SWOSU-Sayre students, staff and faculty,” Billey said.  “Special thanks to the Army National Guard for helping entertain our guests.”

This is the 19th consecutive year SWOSU-Sayre has hosted Career Day.
