SWOSU Foundation Honors Harvey Minton
The Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) Foundation, Inc., Board of Trustees recently honored Trustee Harvey Minton of Weatherford for 14 years of dedicated service on the board.
Minton’s recognition came during the board’s Fall 2018 meeting held recently in the Timothy T. Day Business Enterprise Center on the Weatherford campus.
Minton’s term of office is ending. He spent most of his tenure on the board as Chair of the Audit Committee, successfully guiding the Foundation through a number of annual independent audits with a consistent commitment to integrity, transparency and fidelity to both the university and to donor intent.
In honor of Minton’s generosity and philanthropy as a Foundation trustee, SWOSU President Beutler announced at the meeting that Minton (SWOSU Class of 1964) had been named the 35th member of the SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit.
The SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit is an honor bestowed upon an individual who has shown outstanding achievement on the state, national or international level in the arts, sciences, business, industry, the professions, sports, social service or public service. The prestigious award represents recognition of significant distinction that a member of the SWOSU family has attained. Former SWOSU President Dr. John Hays introduced the award in 2004. The SWOSU Presidential Order of Merit is the highest honor in the personal gift of SWOSU's chief executive.
“Harvey Minton is a true SWOSU Bulldog and we are so honored that he has given over a decade of his life in service as a governing board member of our Foundation,” Beutler said. “He and Jean (his wife) epitomize the noblest ideals to which we strive. They are an example for our graduates and for our community, and we are a stronger institution because of their continued investments in our educational mission.”
At the Fall meeting, trustees heard reports from Beutler and SWOSU Foundation, Inc., Executive Director Garrett King as well as reports related to the Foundation’s managed investments and fundraising activities for Fiscal Year 2018. The trustees discussed and enacted a number of governance policy adjustments and adopted the Fiscal Year 2019 Foundation operating budget.
The SWOSU Foundation was established in 1977 to promote philanthropy and distribute funds to support the activities and programs of SWOSU.
