Cannon Named Outstanding Medical Laboratory Technician Student at SWOSU-Sayre

Sierra CannonSierra Cannon of Weatherford has been named the Outstanding Medical Laboratory Technician Student for 2018-19 on the Southwestern Oklahoma State University campus in Sayre.

Cannon is completing her final year in the MLT program. She will graduate in May and finish a bachelor’s degree in biology this fall at SWOSU.

She moved to Oklahoma in 2011 after living in California and Oregon. She drives two hours round trip from Weatherford for class each day.

MLT Program Director Roxann Clifton said Cannon has helped recruit new students into the program through organizational fairs and is currently the student liaison for the Oklahoma State Society of American Medical Technologists. She has presented case studies at the state meetings for students because she loves public speaking.

“She has excelled academically and completed all clinical hours despite working as many as three jobs to put herself through college,” Clifton said.

Having been awarded SWOSU’s Outstanding MLT student, she will compete for the American Medical Technologists' national outstanding student of the year award.
