The SWOSU Writing Center will be opening its doors for the spring semester on Sunday, Jan. 22 with an online tutor and will begin with in-person consultations on Monday, Jan. 23. Previously located in the basement of the Al Harris Library, the Center moved to their new location last fall to the first floor of the library, the glass room next to the reception desk.

The new location of SWOSU’s Writing Center is on the first floor of the Al Harris Library, next to the reception desk.

Students who visit the Writing Center can expect to receive assistance on essays, presentations, speeches, or other writings at any step of the writing process—from the brainstorming stage to the final draft. The Center’s student consultants are trained on providing efficient sessions with each student regardless of the assignment.

Interested students should be prepared to work with tutors on their assignments—the tutors will offer suggestions, ask questions about the draft, and focus on larger concerns. At the Writing Center, the focus is encouraging students to be able to identify their own writing mistakes after the session and in any future writing endeavors.

“We approach all consultations with the understanding that anyone can learn to write,” says Professor Natasha Tinsley, Writing Center Coordinator.

The Center offers multiple forms of tutoring: online, in-person and email. For online consultations, students can meet with a tutor through their online appointment portal: www.swosu.mywconline.com/. Students can also view both online and in-person on this website and schedule in-person appointments. For email consultations, students should send their assignments to the Writing Center email: writingcenter@swosu.edu. Along with their assignment, students should include a short description of their assignment, the assignment’s due date, citation requirements, the current stage of writing and a brief description of issues that tutors should focus on.

Walk-ins are welcomed, but appointments and emailed projects guarantee that students will receive feedback.

Students interested in visiting the Center for an assignment or for general writing help should visit their webpage for more information: www.bulldog.swosu.edu/student-services/writing-center/. Questions and drafts can be directed toward the Writing Center email.
