Healthcare Administration Program at SWOSU

The academic year 2024-2025 introduces a groundbreaking development – the introduction of two distinct emphasis/specialization, "Traditional" and "Long-Term Care." This completely online program with deliberate diversification recognizes the career paths within healthcare administration and empowers our students to customize their educational journey. Whether students aspire to navigate the complexities of traditional healthcare settings or specialize in the unique challenges of Long-Term Care, our program offers a tailored learning experience to meet individual career goals.

Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration-Long-Term Care Specialization Degree is currently seeking accreditation by the National Long-Term Care Administrators Board (NAB). Upon accreditation, students who have completed the requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Administration-Long-Term Care Specialization Degree which includes a 1,000 hours of Administrator-In-Training (AIT)/Practicum, will be eligible to apply for Oklahoma State Long-Term Care Licensing exam, and upon passing, will then be qualified to set for the National Long-Term Care Administrator exams. Out-of-State students will be responsible for completing the requirements to set for their specific state exam.

To advance in hospitals, you will need to work on a master's degree, and gain experience. Health Care Administrators work in settings such as acute care hospitals, critical access hospitals, HMO, health insurance companies. A license is required to become a Long-Term Care Administration. Nursing home administrators work in settings such as nursing homes, assisted living centers, residential homes, home health and hospice. The administrator, who serves as the central figure responsible for managing the facility and its staff. Leveraging their extensive experience and knowledge in healthcare, these administrators play a pivotal role in enhancing the quality of life for residents.

Employment for health service administration professionals, also called medical and health services managers. This sector is anticipated to experience a significantly faster growth rate compared to other industries and occupations.
