Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy

Dual-degree agreement with University of Taipei

  • Name and location of agreement partner:
  • University of Taipei (UT, formerly known Taipei Municipal University of Education/TMUE), Taipei, TAIWAN
  • Extent to which SWOSU accepts credit or courses offered by the partner or offers courses for which credits are accepted by the partner:
  • Since the GE at UT carries 2 instead of 3 credits, and UT degree plan requires 20 credits of GE and 100 credits of students’ primary studies
  • If for categories with one required course (e.g. Math), the 2 crs. class may transfer in as the equivalence of the SWOSU’s 3 crs. Class
  • If the categories require 7-8 credits (i.e. Natural Sciences), a student would have acquired min. 3 classes/6 credits total to fulfill the requirement or would have to take another class at SWOSU
  • Students coming in meeting minimum score on English Proficiency (IELTS 5.5 or TOEFL 61) and completed at 2 semesters of English may waive ENG 1113 English Composition 1 after passing SWOSU English Proficiency Exam (so far everyone chooses to take it as it prepares them for English Composition 2)
  • The US History and Government would have to be taken at SWOSU
  • Bachelor of Music Degree: Music classes would have to be evaluated individually: Students are expected to complete 2 years of musicianship training such as Music Theory & Aural Skills, Music History from pre-Baroque to 21st century, World Music at SWOSU is transferable to Taiwanese Music History at UT (and vice versa).  Since the UT students will transfer more music classes in the Applied Study than what SWOSU requires students to take, these additional credits will count toward the elective.
  • Bachelor of Sciences in Psychology: UT offers the Psychology and Counseling degree; many of the required classes transferred from UT would carry the same title and contents (using the same textbooks) of SWOSU’s Master of Sciences in Psychology.  However, those classes may be applied to fulfill the minor/non-specified specialty required by the degree.
  • Any credit limitations:
  • The DBD requires students to complete four semesters of study and one-third (1/3) of required credits for the intended bachelor’s program (ex. 43 of the minimum of 128 credit hours for graduation) at UT, and the rest at SWOSU, while meeting SWOSU’s criteria of transfer students such as minimum of 30 semester credit hours, including 15 of the last 30 credit hours, a minimum of 8 credit hours from the upper-division (3000/4000) classes in the intended major, and the SWOSU-required General Education courses not available at TMUE (ex. American Government and Politics and U. S. History), will be completed at SWOSU.  There will not be additional transferable credit limit in addition to these guidelines.
