SWOSU Admissions and Recruitment

President's Leadership Class

Application Deadline: February 1 — The Presidents Leadership Class (PLC) is a four-year leadership program for top students at Southwestern Oklahoma State University at Weatherford. The program was founded in 2006 and is primarily supported by private donations.

Each year approximately 15 of SWOSU’s top entering freshmen are selected to be PLC Scholars. Each Scholar is awarded a $1,000 scholarship and also receives four years of leadership training that fosters both intellectual and personal growth. PLC develops leaders who will have a profound understanding of leadership and its responsible application within organizations, communities and their state.

PLC’s curriculum allows Scholars to develop leadership skills through weekly lectures given by staff, business and community leaders, discussion groups, group projects, community service and internships.

Annual Southwestern Interscholastic Meet

Southwestern Oklahoma State University will host the 107th annual interscholastic meet — known around the state as SWIM — March 26, 2020, in Weatherford.

SWIM is Oklahoma’s longest-running academic competition for high school and junior high students.

Around 60 schools from around the state of Oklahoma are expected for SWIM that started in 1913.  SWIM has been an annual event with the exception of a couple of wartime years.

Taler Alexander, director of SWIM, said more than 2,300 tests will be given in the academic competition. Tests will be given in the areas of fine arts, biological sciences, business, computer science, language arts and literature, mathematics, physical sciences, social sciences and technology. Tests start at 12 noon.

Students will compete for individual awards but also for their respective schools. Sweepstakes awards in the school competition will be awarded in three different divisions. Schools with 600 or more students enrolled in grades nine through 12 will compete in Class I; 151-599 students in Class II; and 150 and less students in Class III
